RED is the equivalent of the old 'Short' Tennis played with soft balls on small courts over low nets, for youngsters aged 4-6 and/or total beginners up to 7/8 who need to learn basic skills and gain confidence before moving on.
ORANGE is the equivalent of the old 'transition' tennis, played on a slightly shortened (3/4) court but over a full sized net and with low compression balls, suitable for most 7-10 year olds starting out, until they are more confident and able. Basic shots and tactics are introduced with various simplified scoring systems to allow for simple competition.
GREEN is basically full sized tennis, 'proper' scoring and only slightly reduced compression balls to help those more able children from about 10-12 to improve their tennis and to work with more advanced skills and tactical awareness, together with more formal games and competitions.
Each stage is divided into three levels and children will be grouped according to their ability and previous experience and will be coached at an appropriate level, enabling them to achieve successes whilst also challenging them to complete more difficult tasks requiring practice and improvement.
Please ask for a mini tennis awards leaflet if you have not already had one...this explains in more detail and gives reference to the LTA Mini tennis website (well worth a look!) www.minitennis.com.
